Student Development

Teaching Methodology

TBS Schools are emphatic about providing child-centric education, and keeping this in mind, we offer learning that is both interactive and experiential. The teaching methodology is a diverse mix of the most recent innovations in education and is based on the latest findings in tutoring research.

We realise that a single method cannot suit everyone. Our teachers select the best combination of various approaches according to the learning styles and needs of their students.

They act as facilitators and guide the students in their learning using activities, audio-visual stimuli, projects and presentations. The focus remains on creating awareness in the students and providing them with experiences that they can apply to real-life situations.

Student Leadership

Students at Tilak Bharati are encouraged from a young age to take the initiative and ‘go where no man has gone before’. Their leadership qualities are nurtured through participation in a competitive house system and student prefectship. As they grow older, their latent abilities as leaders are further fostered through formal training programmes and in working towards an elected position on the Student Council. Student-driven initiatives are wholeheartedly supported and enthusiastically lauded at TBS.

Co-curricular

Performing & Visual Arts

Blending culture and passion across a diverse creative landscape, Tilak Bharati is home to a vibrant and dedicated community which celebrates and practises art in the form of public speaking, visual arts, music, dance and theatre.

DEED (Debating, Elocution, Extempore, Dance/Drama) classes are held throughout the year and the students’ talents are showcased at the various inter – house, intra-school and inter-school events.

Societies & Clubs

At Tilak Bharati, there are a number of societies and clubs to help the students explore their interests and develop their latent talents and leadership promise under expert guidance. Many of these are student initiatives, where students take charge and teachers are only facilitators. Here is just a brief selection of the various kinds of co-curricular activities TBS has to offer its students:

Societies

  • Dance Society
  • Debating Society
  • Drama Society
  • Heritage Society
  • Economic Society
  • Music Society
  • Science & Environment Society
  • Literary Society
  • Computers Society

Clubs

  • MUN
  • Aero-modelling Club
  • Chess Club
  • Gymnastics Club
  • Paryavaran Club
  • Robotics Club
  • Theatre Club

Sports

At Tilak Bharati, sports are taken very seriously. All TBS campuses hold early morning and after school coaching sessions for students in Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Soccer and Swimming. Inter-house competitions in the various sports are held round the year, and help to hone their skills; the battle for supremacy has its climax on Sports Day at each campus.

The schools have representative school-teams in various categories which participate in inter-school, district level and national level tournaments (grade 6 upwards for the latter two). In recent years our soccer and basketball teams have participated in international tournaments. Many of our students have been admitted to various colleges under the sports quota.

Beyond Classrooms

Learning outside the classroom is most successful when it is an integral element of the long-term curriculum planning and closely linked to classroom activities. Each year, the campuses organise school trips to enable students to enhance their learning with real life experiences. Every effort is made to ensure that the students explore the world around them to see the things they have learnt in the classroom come alive.

The school trips are planned in such a way that every grade up to 3 visits places within city and from grade 4 onwards visits places outside city as well in support of the curriculum. Outstation trips and exchange programmes also prove to be great learning experiences.

Community Service

The TBS have a long history of working collaboratively with community-based organisations and people on comprehensive improvement initiatives and programme to address critical issues in health, education and social-behavioural interventions.

As part of the social and community service programmes, the students of Classes IX and XI spend a week in villages in remote areas each year to experience every aspect of village life. The students work with the villagers, visit their homes and share their food, thus gaining a true understanding of the challenges and strengths of the Indian villages. Prior to the class XI trip, the village is asked for a wish list and our students offer physical labour to fulfil that need. Over the years, successive batches of our students have, among other things, lay down a road, built a shed in the cremation ground and constructed a cement basketball court – all from scratch, acquiring the skills needed to do so. They return as mature young men and women who we hope will contribute responsibly to the world they live in.

Environment Initiatives

The TBS have brought about a change in the attitude and mindset of students, the community and the city at large. The schools have equipped the students to make well informed choices, and recognise the links between degrading environment, poverty and unsustainable development.

We lead the students through the FOUR C's - CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY, COMPETENCE & COMPASSION. Whatever the age, our attempt is to encourage active learning and direct participation.
